Join us as an Editorial Board Member

BMC Global and Public Health is recruiting Editorial Board Members with expertise across all areas of our scope. To increase our engagement with the global and public health communities, we are launching the journal with a collaborative editorial model whereby Editorial Board Members assess manuscripts in their areas of expertise alongside the in-house Editorial team. These Editorial Board Members will work closely with our in-house Editors to select for important advances of broad interest to all professional communities involved in global and public health research, policy-making, implementation and delivery worldwide. Editorial Board Members will provide in-depth expertise in their field of research and will allow us to cover the breadth of the journal’s scope and to interact with their peers.

Who are we looking for?

Experts with a passion for open access, data sharing, innovation in scientific publishing and the drive to be an advocate for their field. We are interested in individuals with broad and diverse expertise in any area of our scope, such as disease epidemiology, population health, health equity, environmental and occupational health, health policy, reproductive, maternal and child health, and social determinants of health. We are particularly interested in Early Career Researchers that have demonstrated significant contributions to their field, to help us give a voice to the communities we aim to serve.

What are the benefits and responsibilities?

This is an exciting opportunity for Editorial Board Members to contribute to the launch of this new journal and its editorial mission and to position it as a high impact venue for research in global and public health. You will work together with our in-house, professional Editors in evaluating and selecting manuscripts as well as managing the peer review process and developing papers that the journal publishes. You will act as an advocate for the research community and serve your field by providing efficient, robust and constructive handling of papers, and promoting progressive publishing ideas.

As an Editorial Board Member you will be responsible for the scientific quality of the manuscripts that you handle. You will adhere to the ethos, editorial standards, policies and scope of the journal and ensure that manuscripts are handled efficiently and appropriately.

An Editorial Board Member for BMC Global and Public Health should be willing to handle a minimum of 2-3 manuscripts per month.

We understand that researchers may have limited bandwidth, and we will make every effort to support you in this function to ensure this role is not too onerous for you. Editorial Board Members will be given access to training resources to help develop your editorial skills, and our in-house Editorial and administrative teams will be on hand to provide additional support where required.

Additional benefits for Editorial Board Members include:

  • Increase your knowledge of your field by exposure to research, and the expertise of your peers.
  • Raise your profile and advance your career by being an active participant in your field, through your work on the journal and interactions with authors, reviewers and fellow Editorial Board Members.
  • Behind-the-scenes view into editorial decisions and the peer review process at BMC Global and Public Health.
  • 20% discounted Article Processing Charge (APC) when publishing with BMC Global and Public Health or any other journal within the BMC Series (for a complete list, please see this page).
